Health Screening consists of attending festivals across Central and South Georgia providing free services that include the taking of blood pressures, testing for blood glucose and cholesterol; computer analysis programs comprised of "Your Health Age, Your Stress Profile" and "Your Cardiac Risk Profile". Our biggest event is the Agricultural Sunbelt Expo held the third week of October near Moultrie GA. The same services are also provided at health fairs in various communities and industrial facilities.  Festivals that we are involved with are:   Peanut Festival in Plains, GA; Historic Festival  in Andersonville, GA; St. Patrick's Festival in Dublin GA; Blueberry Festival in Alma, GA; Mayfling Festival in Griffin, GA; Exchange Fair in Brunswick, GA. In addition we do a yearly health fair at the Milledgeville Adventist Church.  The Macon County invites us to be a part of their yearly Health Fair, as well as the Turkey Shoot and Deer Days in Macon County. 
 

Lifestyle Education includes:

  • "Eight Weeks to Wellness" - an eight week instructional program that provides information for helping the individuals live healthier lives and increase longevity.
  • "Depression - The Way Out" - a twelve week program that helps those suffering with depression find a new lease on life and live happier and healthier.
  • "Coping with Stress" - a four week program that helps individuals understand stress and how to best control their lives and live a less stressful life.
  • "Food for Thought" - a four week program that explains how the food we eat affects our ability to think clearly.
  • "Living Free"  -   a six-week program focusing on overcoming addictions.
  • "Simple Solutions"  -  A four-week program on basic good nutrition and health lifestyle.
  • "Breathe Free" - a smoking cessation program that helps smokers 'kick the habit'.

Food Bags for the Elderly

Because we find that the greatest population in South Georgia are elderly, and we find that many organizations provide services to families with children, but the elderly are overlooked in may situations, we focus our food program on the Senior Citizens of our commuities. In partnership with Senior Citizen Centers and several Seventh-day Adventist Churches, we distribute over 16,000 pounds of food every month.   We distribute at the following places:  Spalding County - food is delivered to the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Griffin where it is bagged and distributed to the Seniors; Upson County - food is delivered to the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Thomaston where it is bagged and distributed to the local Senior Center; Taylor County -food is delivered directly to the Senior Center where it is bagged and distributed to the Seniors; Houston County - food is delivered to the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Warner Robins, who in turn delivers to the 'Meals on Wheels' center;  Macon County - food is delivered to the Oglethorpe Seventh-day Adventist School where the students bag the food and deliver to the local Senior Center; Sumter County and Marion County - food is delivered to the Council on Aging center and food is bagged and distributed to the respective Senior Centers; Schley County - food is delivered to the Senior Center in Ellaville where it is bagged and distributed to the Seniors; Crisp County - food is delivered directly to the Senior Center in Cordele where it is bagged and distributed to the Seniors; Wilcox County - food is delivered to the center in Rochelle where it is bagged and distributed to the Seniors; Dooly County - food is delivered to the Senior Center in Vienna where it is bagged and distributed to the Seniors; Irwin County - food is delivered to the center in Ocilla where it is bagged and distributed to the Seniors; Coffee County - food is delivered to the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Douglas where it is bagged and delivered to the local Senior Center; Clinch County - food is delivered directly to the Senior Center in  Homerville where it is bagged and distributed to the Seniors; Thomas County - food is delivered to the Seventh-day Adventist Church in Thomasville where it is delivered and distributed to the Senior Center and Pioneer Plaza; Lee County - food is delivered to the Seventh-day Adventist Church near Leesburg where it is bagged and delivered to Seniors. 

In addition, Adventist Community Services/South Georgia has partnered with Middle Flint Behaviour Health and distributes food for clients at the following facilities:  In Cordele - Crisp DD and Phoenix House; In Americus - New Beginnings, Sumter DD, and Breezeway; In Butler - Taylor DD.  We also deliver to the Easter Seal in both Cordele (Crisp County) and Vienna (Dooly County).  The peers of Perry Wellness Center in Americus are also recipients of monthly food bags from us.
